Sixth Grade: Ms. Danielle Horner

Hi Everyone,hornerpic

My name is Danielle Horner. I am a new addition to  Christ the King School. I feel very fortunate to be part of such a warm and welcoming community.

I would like to tell you a little bit about myself.  I have lived in Vermont for most of my life; enough to consider myself a Vermonter.  In May2009, I graduated from Castleton State College with a certification in Elementary Education.

I love working in schools and being creative in my assignments.  I believe everyone has a unique and special gift to offer, and I plan on finding out exactly what each of my students does best.  I love to go hiking and being outside whenever possible.  We have amazing places to explore right in our own back yards!  I am passionate about many things, including art and traveling.

On October 30, the Middle School had the opportunity to visit Hathaway Farm’s corn maze. The students had a great time working in teams to navigate their way through the maze. We also visited the farm animals, went on wagon rides and had plenty of treats.

The sixth graders have been studying the structure and function of plant and animal cells. The day before the corn maze, a college professor of mine, Dr. Harry Chaucer visited our class.  Dr. Chaucer,  the head of the Education Department at Castleton State College, has a state of the art microscope through which we viewed a multitude of single-celled organisms. The images from the microscope were projected onto the white board. The students (and I) were in awe when we saw the images the microscope produced. The students drew the images of the cells they saw, producing very impressive replicas.

In other news, as you know, the entire middle school is participating in a science fair. Students have selected their experiments and should be gathering material and collecting data. Below, I will post the due dates. Students also have this information in their science fair packets.
