Weekly Newsletter
Week of March 1 – 5, 2010
I have posted the list of Kindergarten sight words and the list of states from which we have received postcards so check it out!
Next Friday, March 5th is an early release day the purpose of which is to hold parent-teacher conferences for anyone who would like to schedule a meeting with the teachers. It is entirely up to parents as to whether or not you would like to come in. I will put a note in this Wednesday’s folder so that you may choose a time to come in if you wish to do so.
This Week’s Lessons
This week’s Religion lessons are about the third week of Lent and learning about God with our friends.
Literacy - continuation of learning how to tap words, letter formation practice, ABC order, rhyming review, opposite terms review, reading Dr, Seuss books with accompanying activities (we celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2nd), sentence writing practice, reading and illustrating a first-step story – The Tip and The Top, pre-decodable book with new word – go.
Math – introduction to nickels, review of counting by 5s, using tally marks, writing number sentences that go with number stories, making exchanges ( 5 singles for one bundle of five, two bundles of five for one bundle of six, etc.)
Lures lessons – Good weather and bad weather people; Concept of Law; recognizing and following instincts -gut feelings- , Concept of Dignity; Affection; Assistance; Pet; Authority; Bribery; Emergency; Fun & Games; Playmate; Hero; Jobs; Name Recognition; Threats Lures. I will briefly touch on computer safety and drug safety. We will conclude these lessons with a brief assessment. Parents will also receive a short questionnaire at the end of the week. I plan to keep these lessons brief and to the point. I hope to begin and end this week, but there can be lots of questions and discussion initiated by the students which ultimately will determine whether or not we finish this week! As I mentioned in the letter I sent home last week I will present the Lures curriculum in an informative but “gentle” manner. However, if your child expresses any discomfort to you about the material please let me know at once. I can certainly make arrangements for you child to be out of our room during these lessons. One of the goals of this program is to empower our students not frighten them.
Pack extra clothes for your child – the playground is WET!!! The kiddos get wet even through their ski pants and boots!
