Third Grade: Mrs. Wendy Hackett

IMG_0250 Hi, my name is Wendy Hackett. I am a New Jersey native, but  I have lived in Vermont for the last eleven years. My husband still refers to me as a flatlander. I’m a huge New York Yankee fan as you soon will learn once you enter my classroom. In August of 2008 our first child was born. It has been a very exciting year watching him grow.  He has been a blessing in our lives.

I have a BS in Communications from Castleton State College and a Masters in Education from the College of St. Joseph.  The 2009-20010 school year will be my seventh year in education and I’ve spent them all at CKS. The first two years I taught computer class to all the grades, and I also taught 7th grade Social Studies. Then I spent three years teaching fifth grade, and one year in sixth grade.  This year I have moved to third grade and I am very excited about it. I love working with the 8- 12 year old age group, and one of my main goals for my students is to have fun learning. I want my students to be excited about coming to school each day knowing that they are receiving the best education possible and having fun in the process.

The 3rd grade did some community service in December by visiting Haven Healthcare in Rutland and singing some Christmas songs and delivering cards.

Third Grade News

November:

Last week we did a play called “Damon and Pythias”.  This story is about the bond between two young men.  The King was a cruel tyrant. He showed no mercy to anyone who spoke against his laws.  Next week we are going to see a show called Dr. Kaboom at the Paramount.  We just went to a prayer service for veterans.

December:

In December, Mrs. Hackett’s class was studying simple machines in science class.  We did an experiment using a giant lever and fulcrum and we were lifting each other.  It was so fun!  We are doing fun stories in Language Arts.  Our first writing project was an autobiography.  They were fun! This week we went to the nursing home.  We sang to the people in the nursing home.  It was fun to make people smile.
