First Grade: Mrs. Suzanne Aquistapace

1aquistapace

My name is Suzanne Aquistapace. I have been teaching first grade at Christ the King School for 14 years. My husband, Frank and I live in Rutland with our two sons, Zak, age 20 and Jordan, age 17. I enjoy spending time with my family and watching our sons play sports. My  personal hobby is scrapbooking with friends.

My philosophy as a teacher is to provide a learning environment in the classroom, which allows each child to grow and develop the necessary skills to succeed in school. It is rewarding to see the growth of each child as the year progresses and is truly inspiring. Imagine entering first grade knowing only letter sounds and leaving be able to read and write. My goal is to have each child leave first grade with special memories and the skills necessary for second grade.

Class News!

My first graders are very busy getting ready for Thanksgiving. This is a time for giving to our families and friends.

The children are making lots of different crafts for their  Thanksgiving Table. (Name tags, bread basket holder, and a Thanksgiving runner)

Our Social Studies Unit will be all about “The First Thanksgiving”. The children will be putting together a large booklet with four pockets containing all different facts about the Mayflower, Pilgrims, Indians, and Our Thanksgiving.  We will go online and tour the Mayflower and see how the Pilgrims survived 9 1/2 weeks on the ship.

The children are moving right along in “Everyday Math” learning new skills each day.  They are given Spelling Test weekly using words from one of our reading programs “Fundations”.  We just finished up in Religion aboout Baptism and how we thank God through prayers and actions. The children just finished with their second pre-primer reading book  and will be starting the third book on Monday, November 9, 2009. They are given sight and vocabulary words weekly to study at home and at school. The children are doing an excellent job. Thanks Mom and Dad!
