Principal’s Newsletter
January 13, 2010
Dear Parents,
This past weekend there was a Rutland Catholic Schools event that I attended called “Embrace Our Present”. Once again, I got introduced to another layer of the community that I had not previously had the opportunity to meet. The evening began with a Mass at the MSJ chapel and was filled with great news, students performing, and an overall general air of good feeling. The gym looked beautiful, the food was wonderful, and the talent of all of the students showcased to the community just how fortunate we are to be Rutland Catholic Schools.
I had been asked to speak for a couple of minutes about the “Present” at CKS. After meeting with Wayne Young, who was giving advice to our student speaker, I decided to take his words to heart. He told the student not to be afraid and not to prepare any response, just speak from your heart and what you know to be true. I decided that this was great advice.
In getting ready for the evening I had thought about all that I should acknowledge about what happens at Christ the King School and quickly realized that a few minutes was not going to be enough time to really share all that is great here, so I settled for what had happened that was special in the four days prior to this event. In reflecting over those days, it became clearer to me what a special school we are all a part of. Our students and staff are truly committed to our mission and what we know is best. It is not to say that there are not areas that need to be worked on. Rather, I came to realize that those areas are being looked at and that we are making changes that will move us forward. Together, we will create a school that will be a fit for us. I understand that there are some who will not be satisfied, but am hopeful that they too can understand that a school is about a community mission, vision and need and not an individual’s desire.
Just so that you know, our students showed the genuine kindness and caring that I have learned to love by raising $150+ dollars for the orphanage in Africa and on a jeans day, where $200 would have been an amazing effort, CKS collected $614 for the Scaralia family.
I want to acknowledge and thank everyone for all that you do to continue to make Christ the King School a solid foundation for our children. If we continue to work together we will achieve the success that we seek for our school.
Peace,
Carol H. Wincowski, Principal

MSJ is doing this as well and we are looking to see if we can get 100% participation!! The money collected will be donated to the Scaralia family. Also, if you are looking for another way to help, the family has suggested that gift cards from Price Chopper or gas cards would be greatly appreciated. Monetary donations in the form of cash or checks (made payable to CKS) can be dropped off at the office. We are off to a fabulous start!!! What a tremendous outpouring of support!!

Prayer for the New Year
The new year,
like a new born child,
is placed in our hands as the old year passes away.
The days and weeks to come are God’s gift; they carry God’s blessing.
As a blessing we welcome them.
Our hope for the year ending is that all that was good in it remain with us,
and all that was harmful be left behind.
Amen.
